The other day my wonderful hubby gave me a Mother’s Day Off (because Mother’s Day usually is not relaxing when you are trying to please every special mom in your life in one day). So I made the most of my day and enjoyed a massage, manicure, pedicure, lunch and then I headed off to see the movie “Think Like A Man” (yes I enjoy going to a movie by myself).

After scoping out the right chair to sit in, I found myself sitting in front of a family that included a little girl that couldn’t have been any older than 8 years old. I was baffled because I knew from the previews that the content of this film would be highly inappropriate for small children since its focus was on dating and relationships.

While I found the movie to be HILARIOUSLY FUNNY, I would not have wanted my 13 year old cousin, 11 year old sister or my own small children sitting there with me watching it. It’s content was way to mature for them to be exposed to. I remember watching the movie “Dirty Dancing” (way too many times to admit) when I was 12 or 13 years old and my dad flipped out because he insisted I was way too young and yet kids are watching much worse much younger these days (I know, I sound like an Oldie).

All that to say, while I understand that we can’t keep our children from being exposed to certain things in life (although I desperately wish we could) but simply do not understand why we as parents would intentionally expose them to it. I look at the youth of today and see that they are growing up way to fast and losing the innocence of their youth way too soon. I want to preserve my babies youth for as long as possible…To each their own I guess……
