Ever do something so funny (and slightly embarrassing) that every time you replay it in your mind, you burst out laughing as if it just happened again? Well I’m still doing that about something that happened to me this past Thursday Evening. Every time I think about what happened to me while I was at a business dinner at the Sugar Cane Raw Bar Grill that evening I am taken right back to that moment…and it makes me laugh.
As I sat at the table with 4 other women trying to figure out what drink to order, I thought I smelled something burning but I didn’t give it much thought…until, the smell became stronger. When I looked up, I saw that my paper menu was on fire from the candle I obviously didn’t see in the middle of the table. Oh it gets better…

I go to lift it up out of the flame (as I am freaking out) and the flame gets higher. It wasn’t a small flame either, the menu was burning quickly and I had no idea how to stop it (I don’t do well in emergencies). I had no idea how to put out the fire, so I tried to get a waiter’s attention. Once he saw it, he came to the rescue and tried to blow it out, unsuccessfully I might add (the image of him doing this is one of the parts that makes me crack up). When what he was doing didn’t work, he had to take the menu from me to put out the fire.
After the fact, I was so embarassed I didn’t know what to say. All I could do was laugh. Apparently this sort of thing has happened at the Sugar Cane Raw Bar Grill before…or maybe they just told me that to make me feel better.
If this would have happened with family, it would have been one thing (although they would have made fun of me) but it didn’t. It happened in front of colleagues (some of which I had just met).
At least the incident served as an ice breaker for everyone at the table. Only me…

lol, excited much? I’d probably do a similar faux pas if I ever were to have a girls night out away from baby!
Glad you are able to laugh about it now! I hope that my future business lunches don’t quite resemble that though 😛 Definitely makes for a good story, especially with the picture!
