Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good party. I love hosting them. I love attending them. However, when it comes to parties (especially ones that I am hosting) there are certain things people do that drive me a little crazy. This is why I have compiled a list of party tips that will help guide you on what you should and should not do at a party. I want to to “Save” you from being one of those people who tick off the party hosts:

  • Be sure to RSVP.  The host needs to be sure they have enough food, drinks, supplies and goodie bags for the kids.

Party Favors

  • If you have already RSVP’d be sure to show up (Unless you have an emergency of course)
  • Don’t show up with additional guests without asking first. (This goes back to making sure there is enough of everything)
  • Don’t show up to a birthday party without a gift. (I am ashamed to say that I have unfortunately have done this before)

Party Gifts

  • Don’t eat on the cake table (explained below)
  • Don’t show up really late (I hosted a party once where the first guest showed up an hour and a half late)
  • Don’t let your child blow out the candle in the cake if it isn’t their birthday party (They have their own birthday party to do it at)

party blowing out the candle

  • Keep track of the party’s stage (If it’s time for cake be there singing along and not somewhere else chatting away)
  • If it’s an outdoor party stay outdoors (There’s a reason the hosts wants it outdoors)
  • Don’t assume other people are watching your Kids. (I am guilty of this!)
  • If a friend or family member has a birthday on the same day or right around it try to coordinate dates so they don’t overlap or coincide. Makes it easier on your family and friends attending.

Readers suggested I add the following:

  • If the party is in someone’s house, don’t let your children destroy the kids bedrooms (especially when they aren’t supposed to be playing in there).
  • The hosts of the party should not get there super late either…the guests shouldn’t be waiting around for a very long time waiting for the party to get started.
  • When parking in someone’s driveway, park correctly so that other cars can fit.

Honestly, some things drive me a little more crazy than others.  One thing in particular is guests using the decorated cake table as a place to eat or put their drinks on.  After all, I usually decorate the cake table really nicely for picture purposes and since we usually eat before we sing “Happy Birthday” and cut the cake, it drives me a bit insane to see people putting their food and drinks on the table, getting it all messy and nasty before I have taken pictures. Does that bother you too or am I the only one?

Are you guilty of any of these? Any party tips I should add to the list?  What bothers you?

Disclosure: I should state that these party tips were not inspired by my daughter’s recent birthday party. So if you were a guest I promise I am NOT talking about you… but it could be something you did at a previous party (guess you’ll never know. ..LOL)
