When I say the word Tomorrowland, do you immediately think of all the amazing rides you can enjoy in that part of Disney …

Don’t worry, there are no wrong answers!

While the movie is not about the theme park itself, it was inspired by Walt Disney’s thoughts on the theme park and they do incorporate actual events. How you ask? Great question! Here are 3 ways Disney’s Tomorrowland Influenced Tomorrowland the Movie.

  • Sean Bailey, president of production at Disney, told writer/producer Damon Lindelof about a box that had been discovered accidentally in a closet at the studio. The “mystery box” contained all sorts of fascinating models and blueprints, photographs and letters seemingly related to the inception of Tomorrowland and the 1964 World’s Fair. Lindelof imagined that these findings were a guide to a secret story that nobody knew about; a place called Tomorrowland that was not just a theme park but existed somewhere in the real world.
  • For the 1964 World’s Fair, the Walt Disney Company created three rides: It’s a Small World, Carousel of Progress and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln which at that time were revolutionary because of how they used robotics and ride technology to create a thematically rich experience. We can still enjoy It’s a Small World & Carousel of Progress at Disney today.

  • In the movie, It’s a Small World is the “portal” to getting into Tomorrowland, as long as you have the pin of course.

Do you know of any more ways Walt Disney’s thoughts on Tomorrowland influenced the movie (which by the way is now officially playing in theaters)?

My family and I can’t wait to see this movie!!!
