And the Oscar goes to….
While I may not have received an Oscar on my recent trip to LA, I was in fact sitting in the theater where the Academy Awards Nominations are announced to watch a pre-screening of Into The Woods. With the performances in this movie, some of its cast may very well be getting an Oscar (fingers crossed).
Into The Woods, a film adaptation of the Broadway Musical, features an all-star (and amazingly talented) cast:
- Meryl Streep (“The Witch”)
- James Corden (“The Baker”)
- Emily Blunt (“The Baker’s Wife”)
- Anna Kendrick (“Cinderella”)
- Chris Pine (“Cinderella’s Prince”)
- Christine Baranski (“Cinderella’s Stepmother”)
- Tracey Ullman (“Jack’s Mother”)
Not only can these actors act but the can also sing! If you enjoy musicals, you’re going to love this movie.
While Into The Woods isn’t your typical take on the fairy tales we have been told over the years, it does provide valuable lessons and reinforces the truth that things don’t always work out the way you want them to but that there is still hope.
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several beloved fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them.
Getting to watch Into The Woods at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills was a tremendous experience. The theater was beautiful and there was a BIG Oscar Statue on each side of the big screen…it was crazy!
To add even more to the glamour of it all, I spotted Jon Tenney, who plays the Vice President on Scandal, in the audience and I had Chris Pine sitting 3 rows behind me!
After the movie, the cast (everyone listed above) came on stage along with Rob Marshall (Director), James Lapine (Screenwriter), Marc Platt (Producer), John Deluca (Producer), Colleen Atwood (Costume Designer) and Dion Beebe (Cinematographer) for a special Q & A.
* Be sure to check back tomorrow for my interview with Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski and Tracey Ullman.
Getting to see their chemistry as they answered questions helped me understand why Rob Marshall affectionately refers to them as a company. I can see why they meshed so well on screen.
Into The Woods will be opening in theaters on Christmas Day!
