I’m Now 35…yep, this week I turned 35.
35!!!
In the days leading up to my birthday, my daughter kept asking if I was excited. I kept telling her “No” and since she couldn’t comprehend why (because kids have awesome birthdays), that response only made her ask me even more. So, I eventually just told her “Yes”.
But…that got me to thinking (yes, I do that sometimes)…Why am I no longer excited as the number gets higher? Is it just me? Please tell me it’s not just me.
I gather that it may have something to do with not celebrating it the was I used to. Growing up I had great birthday celebrations and once upon a time (before kids), my hubby would plan something extra special and really fun for the day of my birthday to help ease the pain of getting older (swimming with the dolphins one year and parasailing another) but that doesn’t happen anymore (maybe when the kiddos get older? hint, hint Babe!).
But that’s no excuse to not get excited, right?
As I was sharing my thoughts with my hubby, he reminded me that during those 35 years I have been blessed to be able to experience some really cool things. As I listened to him, I realized he was actually listening to me AND that he was right (don’t tell him I said that or I’ll deny it). Even with life’s curve balls, I have led a blessed life (blessed NOT perfect).
So instead of focusing on getting older (which is a natural part of life), I have decided to focus on all the cool things I have experienced during the last 35 years.
Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful to be celebrating another birthday. I truly am thankful to be alive. That being said, I am 35 and I pray I can have at least 35 more birthdays to celebrate.
Do you get excited about Birthdays? Why or Why Not? I’d love to hear it.
I am way older than you are. I do not get excited about my birthday anymore! But what I like about it is getting to see my family and having them fuss over me. It is nice to be remembered. I need to look back at the fun things that I got to do too!! Happy Birthday! I hope you had a good day!
Happy Birthday! I hop it was a wonderful day! I don’t really get excited for birthday’s any more. I get more excited to see what the kids have planned for me or made for me. At this age it’s more about enjoying the day with my family.
