September is Hunger Action Month, the Feeding America® network’s nationwide awareness campaign designed to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger.
Unfortunately, hunger exists in every county in the U.S., affecting 49 million Americans, including 16 million children. Just like the Feeding America network, I believe that hunger is solvable and we should all join the fight to end it.
As part of Hunger Action Month, BJ’s Charitable Foundation is donating more than $500,000 to 21 Feeding America Member Food Banks to help build capacity. Food banks typically have ample space and storage to provide product for local food pantries and shelters, these local agencies, however, are often limited by a lack of equipment to provide safe holding and storing of perishable food donations. They could also pick up needed product directly from donation partners if they had the proper equipment and training to reduce the number of trips they make to the food banks. The BJ’s Charitable Foundation grants will help enable agencies to safely pick up more donated product directly from local supporters and distribute more perishable foods to clients – a crucial need in the fight to solve hunger.
We all have a role to play in getting food to our neighbors in need. So how can we help?
Feeding America has made a spoon the icon for Hunger Action Month this September as a means to educate the public on the issue of hunger and to get us involved in Hunger Action Month this “Spoontember.” Their goal is to inspire participation across the nation by asking all of us to take spoon selfies of ourselves balancing a spoon on our nose to share on their social channels with the hashtag #Spoontember and a hunger statistic.
So, grab a spoon and Snap a Selfie and Spread The Word About Hunger Action Month using the hashtag #Spoontember

this is a good idea. there are quite a few ppl who are very poorly as concerns food, esp seniors. You should try to watch out for them, they may not even be able to get to a pantry or know about one, but you might be able to get them a bag of food from a pantry.
This is great program. We support locally.
This is a great program and it is important for all of use to realize that too many Americans go hungry every day.
Wow what a great program to help those in need. So sad that so many Americans go hungry every day.
