I did it! While I was registering for the 2014 Disney Social Media Moms Conference, I signed up for the Fun Run.
They did a similar run at last year’s conference and I opted not to do it but not this year. I am going for it!This is a big deal for me because the last time I participated in a big running event, I may have been in high school (and that was because they made me do it).
Why did I sign up? That’s a good question. Well, I am always up for a challenge. I also realized that the Disney Fun Run is a once in a lifetime opportunity. How many time will I get the chance to run through Disneyland with a great group of bloggers?
The Disney Fun Run is also a major motivation for me to start working out, which is one of my New Year’s Resolutions I had yet to start working on. I really want to be healthier and running is definitely a way to go about doing it.
Now that I am signed up, it’s time to start training. After all, I’d hate to pass out or fall in front of a bunch of bloggers (just in case they happen to be running with a camera) and I’d also like to actually cross the finish line (and not in a slow crawl). So at the suggestion of some actual runners, I downloaded a Free App “c25k free”. It provides you with a weekly 30 minute, 3 day plan to get you running a 5k in 8 weeks.
So for the first week I did a brisk 5 minute warmup walk and then alternated between 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for 20 minutes and then a 5 minute cool down walk. I actually did all 3 days!
I’ll let you know how week 2 of my Disney Fun Run training goes. Keep checking back – I’ll need some accountability!

I have been waiting for this post! You are going to do great on your run! So excited for you!
Thanks! I truly, truly appreciate your support!!!!!
You go girl! I also used a similar app when I was training (before I got shin splints) that helped. I like the intervals of walking and running because it makes the time fly by and gives you a break on between jogs. Keep it up!
Thanks! So far I am liking it as well. It definitely does help to have the walking and running intervals.
I’m running for the Goodie Bag 😉 Plus who wants to be left out of anything Disney!
Oh my goodness, you are my new best friend! The goodie bag is what got me to sign up too but I felt bad saying that, LOL. Thank you for your honesty.
While that’s what got me to sign up, I definitely don’t want to miss out on anything Disney and it has motivated me to get in shape. I can’t wait to meet you 🙂
Well, if I can do a 5K walk, I have no doubt you could run it. For me, it was the Disney Medal that I wanted! 😉 I really enjoyed it, I think Susie & I had a great time… I know I did.
I am very proud of you for doing it and I am so glad you had fun doing it! I can see how getting a Disney medal would be cool.
I just started to read this post and I hope you have continued to prepare for your run. It is a great idea and good for you too.
i eventually want to do one of these runs
