In The Jungle Book, Mowgli and Baloo sing about “The Bare Necessities”, a catchy song Baloo says is about the good life. After asking what a song was, Baloo (shocked that he hadn’t heard of a song) went on to say that everyone has a song. That got me thinking (insert smoke coming out of my ears here)…what are the Bare Necessities in my life?
I could go with the obvious things like food, shelter and water but we all need those things. I wanted to dig deeper and see what I know I could not function without. This is what I came up with:
- The Lord
- My husband
*The unconditional love and support he gives to me is immeasurable
- My kids
*They brighten up my life
- My family
*They drive me crazy but we always have a good time and I know that they would be there for me whenever I need them, no matter what.
- Good Friends
*The kind of friends that eventually become Family (a.k.a Framily)
- Traveling
*I want to see the world!
- Having Fun
*No matter what I am doing or who I am with, I always try to have fun. Life is too short not to.
- Helping Others
I am sure there are a few more that I could add on to the list. It’s good to reflect and take note of what’s good in your life so you can appreciate it. That being said, what are some of your Bare Necessities?

I remember my nephew singing the Bare Necessities song all the time. I think everything you mentioned in this post is me….family, friends and being good to one another
I much like your list of necessities in your love. Almost all are mine as well. It seems the appreciation for our needs being met is a strong pathway to our well-being and happiness
