A few weeks ago I was in Atlanta, Georgia for the Type A Parent Conferences and on our last night there, my blogging buddies and I decided to go out to dinner for a nice evening together.  After all, our hubbies and kiddos were thousands of miles away.

We were staying at the Westin Buckhead in downtown Atlanta so we decided to walk on down Peachtree Road in search of a restaurant.  After a short walk (thank goodness), we stumbled upon Southern Art, a restaurant owned by Chef Art (who apparently was Oprah’s chef at one point).  Have you ever heard of it or eaten there before?

We stepped inside to see what the wait time would be and we were greeted by a beautiful lobby. Thankfully there was no wait at all and we were seated immediately because I was starving (when am I not?).

As we waked to our table I couldn’t help but be impressed.   The entire restaurant was aesthetically pleasing and when I say entire, I mean “entire”…there was even artwork on the ceiling.  Southern Art looks like a miniature Art Gallery.

After taking a look at the southern style menu options, I opted for Fried Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and Macaroni and Cheese. I also couldn’t resist ordering their chicken and dumplings as a starter (I told you earlier, I was hungry), which was yummy.

While we waited for our food to arrive, the server brought us biscuits and a sugar cane butter that was scrumptious!  So much so, that I am tempted to try and make it one day.

Once my meal arrived, I was amazed by how delicious it tasted and by how big the portion was.  It came with 3 pieces of fried chicken that I couldn’t finish and a generous amount of mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese (as you can see from the pic below).

The whole meal was incredible and reasonably priced (which made me extra happy)!

If you’re ever in Downtown, Atlanta be sure to visit Southern Art and if you do, come back and let me know what you thought.
