Have you ever tried or made Peppermint Flavored Sugar?
Not only does this make a pretty gift when packaged in a lidded jar, and wrapped in a festive ribbon. But it also is delicious as a plain sugar substitute in pound cakes, cookies, pancakes, or to add to coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. It is lovely sprinkled on top of cookies, over oatmeal, or even to dip fresh raspberries in.
This would be beautiful in a mason jar as well, to gift to any peppermint lover in your life. Simply, put it in a basket with some chocolate dipped stirring spoons, a bag of fresh coffee beans, and some peppermints for a great gift for a swap, or hostess gift.
Here’s what you need:
- 1-2 cups of sugar
- 8-12 fresh peppermint leaves
- Airtight bottle or jar
Here’s what you need to do:
- Remove all labels from jar, wash it thoroughly, and make sure it is completely dry inside before you begin filling it.
- Start by bruising the peppermint leaves to release the natural oils. I have found the best method for this is to lay the leaves on a cutting board and gently tap with the backside of a spoon.
- Layer an inch sugar, place a couple bruised peppermint leaves on top of sugar, layer more sugar, and more leaves. Repeat until your jar is full.
- Set in a cool, dark place for 2 to 3 weeks and allow the natural flavors to be absorbed by the sugar.
- Package the Peppermint Flavored Sugar in the bottle or jar and decorate the way you’d like.
Enjoy!!
