Father’s Day is almost here and finding something to buy for the dad that does so much may not be incredibly hard for you, but what about a gift from your child to their dad? They can always make him one!
Homemade Father’s Day Gifts Your Kids make are sometimes the best gifts!
There are hundreds of ideas for kids to make gifts for dad, and the following are some of the easiest for young kids to accomplish.
Unique picture frame
Does your dad like to work on cars in his spare time? Take some car nuts and attach them to a picture frame with sturdy glue to make something new and unique. If dad likes painting, do the same with paint brushes. Whatever he enjoys doing, you can find something related that will easily attach to a picture frame. Fill it with a picture of your family to make it really special.
A giant card
Instead of the usual store bought card, have your toddler make a large card to go with the gift you buy for dad. Buy a sheet of poster board for 50 cents and let your toddler decorate it as they choose. Help them write the words “We Love You, Dad” or some other special message for dad. This over the top card will be sure to brighten his day.
Luggage tags
Get out the scrapbook paper and notions and make some funky luggage tags that dad can attach to his bags when he travels. Have your kids color, cut (with your help) and glue the tags together. They will remind him of the people who love him most when he’s away from home and you can make them any way you’d like to suit dad’s personality.
Garden supplies
No, you’re toddler isn’t going to make rakes, shovels, and other garden equipment, but they can do things to make the dad with a green thumb feel special. For example, make garden markers out of foam cut outs of apples, pumpkins, watermelons, and the like. Glue them to popsicle sticks to be inserted in the garden in the appropriate places. You can also decorate the handles of new garden tools with paint, or even have your toddler help you plant a few things in containers for dad to grow inside or on the porch.
What other Homemade Father’s Day Gifts Have your kids made?
I love home made gifts. I still have some that the children made over 20 years ago.

Homemade gifts come straight from the heart!
I’m always looking for crafts to make with the kids, and my husband loves receiving their handmade gifts.
I have always enjoyed making homemade gifts, their one of a kind gifts, and they seem to add a lot of love everytime we get them from the grandchildren
What a great idea instead of buying stuff all the time.
The most memorable gifts are home made.
I agree 🙂
I love making home made things for everyone with my son. These are great ideas. Thank you for sharing.
Now I just have to get my husband to make some gifts with my son for me! 😉
LOL…Good Luck 🙂
Such great ideas for making things with your children
for Fathers day.It is so much more memorable for your children
to learn that giving doesn’t mean having to run to the mall.
So true!
My husband is gone now but he used to treasure the handmade gifts the kids used to give him for father’s day. After he died we went to his office to clean out his desk and found a rock paperweight our son had made him when he was in kindergarten…Continue to make those gifts for Dad.–
Sorry for your loss! Thanks for sharing that sweet memory with us.
I absolutely love this post. In my opinion, homemade gifts are far more superior to those bought at a store. These ideas are easy to complete with the kids! My favorite is the Unique Photo Frame. So many ideas to be had with this. I mean, painting, you could stick legos on it, all kinds of fun things! I love it!
Thanks for the additional ideas!
Growing up, we had to learn how to make things as gifts because there were so many of us children that would have to buy gifts & in the 70’s, money was less meaningful than items we can make from the heart. I guess that comes from the “flower child” era 🙂
I tried to instill the same meaning in my two children when they were little & would tell them with each holiday & other special dates, that I would much rather have a gift made from them as for them to go buy something made by machine in a factory. They enjoyed making the gifts as well as giving them, so it is a win-win situation. I also think in our day & times, people are having to go the “man-made” items because the economy is so bad, people are stepping back in time in order to save money with ideas from years ago.
