Although I had heard of Herbalife, I didn’t know too much about them until I had the pleasure of visiting the Herbalife Headquarters in L.A. this past year. While I was there I was able to see first hand how much they take pride in their products, value their employees and how they have set out to change the eating habits and the lives of people all over the world. It really is so much more then weight loss food products, it is about changing your lifestyle through good nutrition and fitness.

While I was visiting I was able to learn so much about the company, their products, distribution center, distributors and I’ve gotta tell you, I was impressed!

We met and learned about the amount of grams of fat in a lot of the junk/fast foods we eat from nutritionist, Susan Bowerman and that was eye opening. She is quite knowledgeable and is responsible for a lot of creative recipes using Herbalife products. When it comes to the shakes, it’s nice to be able to change things around some (to spice things up) without losing its nutritional value.

One of the things that most impressed me is that Herbalife gives back in so many ways…

  • They provide their food products and gyms for their employees FREE of charge.

  • They currently support 150 + local heroes/athletes by providing sponsorships to them. I found it interesting that they only work with those who actually use the product and not all sponsorships are monetary, they are grounded/based on the product.

  • They have an organization, Herbalife Family Foundation (HFF), with 75 programs around the world that partners with local charities. To them it’s more than simply writing a check, developing a relationship is very important to them as well.

Getting to check out the Distribution Center was cool and it is pretty amazing.  It is completely automated with various validation points (both the bins and boxes have barcodes) and it ships between 3,000 – 4,000 products in an average day. Because it is automated, the employees don’t have any heavy boxes to carry!

We visited the Herbalife Innovation and Manufacturing (HIM): This is a manufacturing building/touring facility and we got a behind the scenes look at how items are packaged and tracked.

We also went to the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition- Mark Hughes Labs where we met with Dr. Luigi Gratton

We also got to taste and use their products but I’ll actually be covering their products in a separate post along with a giveaway…so stay tuned for that.
