As a follow up to my Money Monday segment on WSVN (Channel 7) that aired last week, I wanted to share a few ways you can save money on Thanksgiving dinner.
- Buy from multiple stores to find the best deals, unless of course the store you shop at offera price matching and then you can do it all in one store (which will save you time and the money you’ll spend on gas)
- Start shopping ahead of time so that there is time to get items on sale. If not, you get stuck paying full price.
- Be on the look out for deals on Turkeys. In the past I have gotten FREE turkeys if I buy a certain amount of food or certain products.
- When the holiday is over, stock up on canned goods that don’t expire until after the next Holiday. I’ve been able to get canned gravy and canned cranberry sauce at a great price once Thanksgiving was over.
- Get an accurate headcount of who will be attending Thanksgiving dinner so that you Don’t overbuy food and items.
- Figure out what you’ll need for the gathering and make a list so that you only buy what you need.
- Ask guests to contribute items. This not only saves you money, it also saves you time.
- Buy Thanksgiving decorations and cutlery at a Dollar store and try to save what you can for the following year.
- Use generic brands for items you can’t find on sale.
- Consider skipping appetizers, you’ll save money and time. This also ensures that your food will be eaten, reducing excess leftovers.
