Getting to sit down and chat with Andy Samberg and Katie Crown about their roles in Storks was a real treat! Not only did I learn some fun facts (11 to be exact), we also enjoyed a few laughs, I mean how could we not? In Storks, Andy is the voice of a stork named Junior and Katie does the voice of Tulip, a human living on stork mountain. They do a fabulous job and had quite a lot to share.

Here are 13 things I learned from chatting with Andy Samberg and Katie Crown:

  • Andy hopes families walk away with the message that “there’s no one definition of family. It’s whatever feels right to you and whatever your reality is.”
  • Katie hopes people learn not to “underestimate folks” after watching the movie.
  • Andy Samberg and Katie Crown actually did some of their audio recordings together.
  • There was definitely a lot of collaboration and stuff that came up on the spot while they recorded.

  • Both Andy and Katie thought it was fun watching their characters on screen.
  • Andy decided to work on Storks because he knew Phil, Chris, Lord, Miller and Nick and he was a big fan of all of Nick’s movies. For him, “it just seemed like all the right people”.
  • Andy Samberg jokingly said that he felt they gave the stork his teeth.
  • Katie feels that her and Tulip are alike in some ways. “We’re both nervous and can be quite awkward people…but mighty and strong and smart.”

  • Katie was part of the alt-comedy scene in Toronto and she still collaborate with them. They are part of her flock.
  • When asked about his flock, Andy said “I have two older sisters, and a lot of the reason that I do comedy and the comedy I do comes from that dynamic of family goofing around in the house, like trying to make each other pee your pants kind of laughing. And I just chase that feeling in my life.”
  • One of the sessions they we did was with Key and Peele, and Andy said that it “was super fun. Those guys are so good at improv and they’re so fast”…He thought “that’s like what it felt like to be in a Key and Peele sketch.”

  • Katie Crown is currently developing her own animated series.
  • Andy is currently shooting season four for Brooklyn Nine-Nine and he did HBO tennis mockumentary and will be doing another one about cycling.
