Seeing a movie I grew up loving, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, brought to life thru Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Arsht Center was such a great way to start the year off!
With my daughter, mom and close friend as my dates for the evening, we all agreed that it was colorful, whimsical and all around very entertaining. We laughed throughout the show, sang along and enjoyed being part of a story we know and love. I was truly amazed that they were able to honor the original story while making it their own. They even included the Umpa Loompas in a fun and imaginative way, and had they not I would have been highly disappointed.
If I had to choose one thing I wasn’t particularly fond of, it would be that they used that “A**” word once. Even knowing that, I would still take my kiddos to see this performance. As a parent, I wanted to make you aware of it because I did think it was unnecessary. Other than that, I think the kids would really enjoy the show. My daughter could not stop raving about it.
Getting to experience a broadway show so close to home with people that I love was a great way to kick off 2020. It was by far an amazing show, one I feel made me feel like I was watching a broadway show in New York. I am not surprised though because the Arsht Center has a fantastic line up of broadway performances that I can’t wait to discover. If you are in South Florida and can make it to a show before it ends on January 5th, I highly suggest it.
