Last weekend my hubby and I enjoyed a date at sea aboard Charade, a 45 foot Hunter Sailboat. We had ever been on a sailboat before so we were pretty excited. Mostly because it was something we had never done before but we were also excited about getting some quality time together, since our busy schedules don’t allow us that luxury as often as we’d like.

Once we arrived at the Alsdorf Boat Park, we paid for parking and boarded the Charade where we were greeted by Captain Chuck (owner of the sailboat) and 4 other guests. After making introductions (somehow my husband became known as Ralph instead of Art…LOL) we set sail towards the ocean.

Being out in the ocean was beautiful! I’m not going to lie, disconnecting from technology can be difficult to do but when it’s so that I can spend quality time with my husband, it is definitely worth it. It was nice to be able to sit back, relax and take in all the beauty of the sea …it was nice to slow down. Plus, I really wasn’t cut off from the world, so that helped me cope…baby steps.

In addition to taking it easy, Captain Chuck also gives you the opportunity to take the wheel and drive the sailboat. Of course I couldn’t pass up the chance (I am always up for an adventure). Thankfully, he didn’t leave my side because I was a bit nervous. No worries, we all survived!

Since you go out for about 3 to 4 hours (depending on the weather), we packed a lunch and we were able to enjoy a picnic at sea. I felt bad eating tuna while out in the ocean but I guess its’ better than eating sushi right?

I was hoping to see dolphins (which wold have totally made my day) but that didn’t happen but we did see a sailboat race and the Hillsboro Lighthouse.

If you’re interested in taking a sailboat ride, Captain Chuck and Charade will be back in the area again. In addition to sailing in the day he may also be doing Sunrise sailings (seeing the sun rise from the ocean would be amazing!) and destination cruises. You can email at charadecharters(at)aol(dot)com to set up your sail. Be on the lookout for a deal in Living Social soon.
When you go for a sail, be sure to bring some sun block, your camera and a lunch for you to enjoy.
