For the past 2 years my husband has gone on a mission trip to Mirebalais, Haiti with our church through an organization called Great Commission Alliance (as you can see in the picture above) and this year I will be joining them. While we are there, we will be visiting the various orphanages GCA provides assistance for and we will also be doing VBS for those same children along with the kids from their neighborhood.
One thing is to know about what’s going on over in Haiti (I’m sure everyone has heard about the devastation there, especially after being hit by the earthquake) but it’s another thing to go there and experience it for yourself, which is one of the reasons I wanted to go there and share this with him.
While I am sure that it will be an incredible and life changing experience, this is also going to be a challenge for me because I am Me and I am, well…. “challenging”. Let me elaborate some….
- I am a very picky eater (which is why I am taking snacks, bread & jelly)
- I am NOT an outdoorsie type person
- I am not a fan of germs
- I HATE being away from my kiddos (This is probably the hardest and I am still heavy hearted about this)
Now do you see why I KNOW it is going to be a challenge? I am sure at this point you are also feeling sorry for my hubby, and you should. However, these reasons are all the more reason why I wanted to go. I want to face these challenges head on and grow from it, I’m just hoping I don’t drive everyone crazy in the process.

So, I ask for your prayers for my family and I as I step out in faith and travel to Haiti. Also, you can follow along with me on this adventure through my Facebook Page and Posts because the building we are staying at may have Wifi (praying it works while we are there).
A little bit about Great Commission Alliance (GCA):
Founded in 2000, GCA is making a difference in Mirebalais, Haiti by bringing education to the next generation, equipping future leaders, empathizing with those in need, and empowering change for Haiti by Haitians.
Did you know that the poorest Haitian households have a daily per capita income amounting to only 44% of the poverty line. Less than half of the population has access to clean drinking water. The illiteracy rate is close to 84%. The infant mortality rate is 76 per 1,000 live births. A mere 28% of the population has access to sanitation facilities???

Praying for a fantastic trip! Several years ago I did a Missions trip that put me WAYYYY out of my comfort zone for many reasons, and I’ll be honest, it was hard (it was also a year long), but it was a huge time of growth for me and I made some great life-long friends. Blessings!
Thank you Sharon!!!!!
I wish you the very best of luck…you are doing an amazing thing.
