Ah, fall! It’s the season of all things pumpkin, falling leaves (well not here in Florida but I heard it happens) and getting sick (boo!). Nothing ruins your holiday fun quicker than being laid up in bed. Last year’s flu season was no joke, my husband spent 4 days quarantined in our room because of it. Given how much he suffered, we’re certainly in no hurry to repeat it in my household!
Fortunately, there are some simple tips we can all follow to stay healthy during cold and flu season. That is why I am sharing these four easy things we do to keep our whole family feeling great.
-
- Wash your hands:
I know it seems like an obvious tip but it is an important one that is often overlooked. So, wash your hands regularly, especially before putting them in your mouth or rubbing your eyes.
-
- Proper Sleep:
Did you know that sleep deprivation puts you at a higher risk of getting sick? Do yourself a favor and get as much shut-eye as possible. Your Netflix binge can wait!
-
- Reduce Stress:
Running yourself ragged trying to keep up with work, the kids’ schedules and back-to-back holidays? That’s a perfect recipe for getting yourself sick at the worst possible time! Stress impacts your immune system and leaves you more vulnerable to picking up cold and flu bugs, making you miserable and sick. So consider offloading a few tasks from your to-do list, book a massage, or spend a few minutes meditating every day.
-
- Take your vitamins:
Taking a multivitamin is a great habit for your family to develop year-round, but especially during cold and flu season. However, it can be difficult to convince kids to take them.
Does your family take daily vitamins? How do you stay healthy during cold and flu season?
