An elementary school principal in tighty-whiteys and a cape who thinks he is a super hero, what kids (and most adults) don’t want to see a movie about his adventures. That’s all it took to peak my family’s interest. Although, finding out Kevin Hart voiced a character, George Beard, in the film made me want to see it all the more. Thankfully, my family and I were able to attend a special pre-screening of the film.
Based on a series of kids’ books by Dav Pilkey, Captain Underpants follows two elementary school pranksters, who are trying to avoid being sent to different classrooms by their bitter and spiteful Principal Krupp, voiced by Ed Helms. The boys accidentally hypnotize him into thinking that he’s a superhero named Captain Underpants which they created in a series of comic books that George creates the stories for and Harold draws to bring it all to life. This book turned animated film is a film you and the family should see (whether you have read the book or not).
Creative and imaginative writing combined with giggle worthy slapstick humor make Captain Underpants worth watching. There is also the message of friendship, accepting responsibility for your actions and even a lesson in not judging a book by it’s cover.
Captain Underpants The First Epic Movie is a film the whole family will enjoy and is now officially in theaters!
