I’ve said it before but it is worth repeating…as soon as I saw the preview for Black Panther, I wanted to see it. I mention that because when you hype up a film in your mind, it can disappoint you but that was absolutely not the case with Marvel’s Black Panther. I really enjoyed it, so much so that I will be watching it again when it comes out in theaters (on 2/16).

Here are 5 reasons I think you should go and see Marvel’s Black Panther:
#1. They cast is amazing. Every character, no matter how big or small their role, has a story that shapes who they are and lends to the bigger story being told. What really inspired me was how each female character displayed beauty, intelligence and strength each in their own way. No matter what their gender, each played a vital role in Marvel’s Black Panther.

#2. There was a ton of action. Some of the fight scenes show use of a weapon that leads injuries and sometimes death. When it comes down to whether or not your kids should watch it, I always say that you know what your child(ren) can handle. That being said, I will be letting my 9 year old son watch it because besides that, there are no sexual scenes and I only caught the use of the word “s**t”once.

#3. There is just the right level of comedy. The best part is that they are funny without the appearance of trying to be. Letitia Wright, “Shuri”, is really funny, she’s a scene stealer.

#4. The colors, the scenery…all of it makes you feel like you are actually in Wakanda. After speaking with Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter and Production Designer Hannah Beachler (interview will be up on the blog on 2/20), I know how much attention to detail was put into the design and clothing to give it an authentic African feel. If Wakanda actually was a place, I would want to go visit it.
#5. There are so many lessons you can take away from the film. Whether it is that women can be both beautiful and smart or that sometimes you need to be bold and take a leap of faith no matter what the costs, everyone takes away something from the movie.
