One of the best parts of attending The D23 Expo is getting to attend the various panels. They not only allow you to learn about the new movies, they also give you a deeper look into some of your favorite films. An example of this was the Musical Celebration of Aladdin.
A Musical Celebration of Aladdin at the D23 Expo
Scott Weinger (the voice of “Aladdin”) kicked off the celebration! He was later joined on stage by Linda Larkin (the voice of “Jasmine”). As they took us on a magic carpet ride through some of our favorite songs from “Aladdin”, I couldn’t resist singing along. Yes, it was off key but I didn’t let that stop me. I couldn’t resist and you know that you couldn’t have either.
Fun Fact: Scott Weinger did not do any singing in the film, it was actually done by Brad Kane.
During our time there, we were treated to some of their behind-the-scenes stories with the help of some special guests that included:
- Brad Kane (“Aladdin” singing voice)
- Deedee Magno Hall (“Jasmine” in “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular”)
- Jamal Sims (choreographer, “Aladdin” live-action)
- Clinton Greenspan (Broadway’s next “Aladdin”)
- Lillias White (“Hercules”)
- Norm Lewis (“The Little Mermaid” on Broadway)
Having so many talented Aladdin cast members on one stage was truly amazing! As if we weren’t freaking out enough, Mena Massoud (“Aladdin” live-action) came on to the stage and the crowd went wild. He gave us a first look at the bloopers and a deleted scene of the original song “Desert Moon,”. Of course, you can see them as well on the bonus features on the live-action film’s Digital & Blu-ray release.
Oh, and we saw special video messages from Will Smith and Alan Menken! The Musical Celebration of Aladdin seemed to fly by! I was so sad to see it end but was so thankful to have been able to experience it given my love for the film.
Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin is available on DIGITAL today. Plus, the animated classic Aladdin also joins the Walt Disney Signature Collection on Digital today.
