I first heard about cake pops from a mom at my Daughter’s preschool, and although I really thought they were cute (and delicious) once I learned how many steps were involved in making them, I decided that I would let others make it and that I would stick to eating them….LOL

Needless to say, I was thrilled when I got the chance to review a Babycakes Cake Pop Maker from BJ’s Wholesale Club.  It seemed pretty easy to do (which it was) and I knew we would enjoy both making it and eating them.  The kids were very excited when I told them we would be making cake pops.


Not only is the cake pop maker compact but they also come in some cute colors, so they make cute gifts for others or for yourself AND they are also very affordable.

The package includes instructions and recipes that you can try (which is pretty cool) and although I did not see where it said you could use a box of cake mix (instead of making your own), you can.  1 box of cake mix will give you A LOT of Cake pops.



And so it begins….



When I attended a blogger event at BJ’s, one of the reps for BJ’s Wholesale Club suggested that you overfill it so that it comes out fuller and rounder.  Just try to not have it overflow because then you have to break off all those burnt pieces after and that is just an extra step for you.


I overfilled the ones on the right on purpose so that you could see the burnt part.  The ones to the left are the ones I filled almost to the top, yet allowing space to rise.

Once they are cooled some, the manual suggests that you put them in the freezer for about 15 minutes so that it will harden, this is definitely a good idea because I tried putting a stick in the pop before putting them in the freezer and it went right through the top…LOL.



Although this way is much quicker than doing it the conventional way, you do need to allow time for letting the pops cool down, freezing them, putting the frosting/chocolate on it and then letting those cools so that it hardens.  So be sure to allow time for that.  I actually had to do mine in 2 evenings because I didn’t account for the time and of course I started them too late in the evening for my kids to be able to enjoy that night.  I had them in the refrigerator overnight and then frosted them the next day and I was pleasantly surprised that the middle was still so very soft.

Be very careful because the cake pop maker itself can get very hot….it could be that I had mine on for way too long before using it since I was side tracked in the process but I wanted to let you know just in case.

I used chocolate melts for the cover and added Christmas sprinkles. 



As you can see from the pics my family enjoyed eating the cake pops.



I need a bit more practice before I do any for my events but I did enjoy both making them and eating them!!!
