When you see an animated film, you probably don’t realize how much work goes into it putting it all together. There are so many people involved and so many details that go into making it what it is. You can imagine my excitement when we had the chance to meet and speak with some of the people who made Secret of The Wings happen.

Once we had seen the movie (you can read my review of the film HERE), our first stop was with Ritsuko Notani, the character designer for the film. She had the tough task of creating Perwinkle’s look so that it was both consistent with Tinker Bell but also consistent with the look of a winter fairy (meaning her hair, her attire, etc.). While we were with her, she told us how she went about creating Periwinkle and guided us on being able to draw her ourselves. I did a bad job but if you squint your eyes, my drawing may look like Periwinkle.

Here it is (try to contain your laughter):

Next up, we met with Fred Warter, the Art Director and Nickie Huai, the lead Lighting and Rendering. They were responsible for bringing all of the animations in the film to life. I never realized how much work went into this one aspect. They researched various parts of nature to bring the Wings to life (but I won’t say much more as to not ruin it for you) and that is only part of the movie. They also had to work hard on the Winter Woods, it had to appear like winter without coming across as Christmas time.

Meeting with Paul McGrath, the Audio Engineer was extra fun because not only did we get to see where the actors come in to do the voice overs, we also got to do one as well. I did the voice of Periwinkle and it’s not as easy as it would seem. You need to try and capture the emotions of the character and timing is everything. I had a blast doing it but I don’t plan on quitting my day job anytime soon.

Last but not least we met with the brilliant Peggy Holmes, the Director of the film and one of the screenplay writers. She was passionate about the film and you can tell she put alot of thought into the story, its characters and how it was portrayed on screen. They did a great job!

Disclosure: I went on this trip as part of a Disney press trip. All of my travel, lodging and meal expenses were covered by them. No other compensation was received. However, all opinions/thoughts are 100% my own.
