I can not wait from my kiddos to see the movie Queen of Katwe. I loved it. It’s the kind of movie that offers hope and brings a smile to your face. Inspired by a true story, not only will the kiddos enjoy the movie but they will also learn from it, I know I definitely did.
I kept jotting down notes because there were so many valuable lessons throughout the whole film. While they were meant for the game of chess, they can also be applied to life.
These are the 7 Lessons I Learned from watching Queen of Katwe
- Challenges are not always a curse.
- Don’t be quick to surrender or give up.
- Sometimes the place you are used to isn’t the place you belong.
- While it is nice for someone to believe in you, to succeed we need to believe in ourselves.
- Losing doesn’t mean you are a failure and in the game of chess, it teaches you to play better.
- Slowing down and thinking things through can help you be victorious.
- If you fail, reset the pieces and play again both in chess and in life.
Another reason to watch the movie is because of it’s theme song, #1 Spice. Now that it is available I am going to download it. My family and I have already watched the video too (which you can check out the video for below…watch it!)
Did I mention that I once met David Oyelowo, who plays the Chess instructor? because I totally did and snapped a selfie with him.
“Queen of Katwe” is the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.
Queen of Katwe opens in theaters releases nationwide on Friday September 30!
