Growing up, there was a time that I didn’t like having curly hair. It was different than my friends hair, uncontrollable and often frizzy because I wasn’t using the right hair care products. It’s important to love your hair but it wasn’t until I became an adult that I truly came to appreciate having curly hair. Now, I love it! So much so that I am ecstatic that both my kiddos have curly hair.
Then it happened…My daughter wanted to have straight hair. I guess people tend to want what they do not have. I didn’t want her to be an adult before she realized just how special her curly hair was so I would to tell her how beautiful her hair was and how much I loved it. Thankfully, she also consistently receives compliments on her hair and how they wish they had her curls.
I am happy to report that she now loves her curls!!!!
Did you know that 8 in 10 women feel pressure to wear their hair a certain way? Unfortunately, too many girls start to feel that pressure at a young age. That is why Dove Hair is committed to broadening the definition of beautiful hair and ensuring that hair is a source of confidence, not anxiety for both women and girls. Dove Hair believes a positive role model can greatly impact a girl’s confidence. In fact, a recent Dove study found that 82% of girls learn to care about themselves from their mother.
As a mother (parent, mentor, friend), you can make a difference and help ensure she grows up feeling confident. It’s important to love your hair so celebrate the beauty of your daughter’s hair today–so she loves her hair tomorrow.
*I’m thrilled to be working with Dove & Unilever to encourage mothers to share a #LoveYourHair selfie. By doing so, we’ll hopefully pass along much needed hair confidence to our daughters.
