As if I wasn’t already excited about seeing the movie Inside Out, I am even more excited about getting to see the new Short LAVA again. I fell in “Lava” with it. Yes, it’s a corny pun but I couldn’t resist.

While in San Francisco at the #InsideOutEvent learning about the film, I was not only to watch Lava but we were also able to chat with its director, James Murphy. Not only did he tells us about how Lava, a 7 minute animated musical love short, came to be but he also performed part of its main song on a ukulele…it was awesome!!!!

Here’s 3 Fun Facts James shared about Lava:

  • His love for Elvis, Hawaii and active volcanoes inspired him to create Lava
  • For inspiration, James listened to Hawaiian music for 1 year and then attended a musical festival in Hawaii where he ultimately found the singers: Kuana Torres Kahele and Napua Greig
  • It took 8 months to develop the song

Check out this cute Lava clip:

Don’t forget that LAVA can only be seen before Disney Pixar’s Inside Out (in theaters on 6/19) and it is so worth watching (again and again). More about Inside Out…

Inside Out Official Synopsis:

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
