We Bought a Zoo tells the true story of Benjamin Mee, a father (played by Matt Damon) and his two children, who after a death in the family move out of the city and purchase a zoo because they are in desperate need of a fresh start. The zoo is in bad shape and needs a tremendous amount of work, especially when they need to pass a major inspection before its Grand Opening. So with the help of his family and his employees (one of which is Scarlett Johansson) they work hard and overcome obstacles to get the zoo ready in time. The journey of fixing the zoo provides much needed healing and reconciliation within their family.

I enjoyed the movie and while there is no inappropriate content you will need to shield your child’s eyes from, as a parent I should mention that the movie heavily deals with the issue of death and there is the occasional use of the “s” word. As I have said before, you know your child best, what your child can handle and what you want them exposed to.

Despite the occasional bad word, it is a cute and inspiring film and I am a sucker for true stories, so I think it is worth watching.

*I received this DVD to Review at no cost to me. No expectation was given to post about the DVD. Opinions are 100% my own (I wouldn’t have it any other way).
