We loved How To Train Your Dragon so much that we watch their cartoon and we couldn’t wait for the sequel How To Train Your Dragon 2, finally in theaters today.
My daughter, my friend and her daughter had the chance to attend a special pre-screening of the film before my interview with Jay Baruchel (Hiccup), America Ferrera (Astrid) and Dean Deblois (Writer, Director, Executive Producer) and we LOVED it!

When it comes to sequels, I am always scared I’ll be disappointed that it won’t live up to it’s predecessor but in this case I actually like How To Train Your Dragon 2 the best.
How To Train Your Dragon 2 starts off 5 years later and my how things have changed! For one, Berk is now an island cohabited by vikings and dragons. Two, the kids have all grown up which is why we find Hiccup trying to figure out who he is and what he wants to do with his life (We all know, he is not your typical viking). Three, Apparently Hiccup is not the only Dragon Rider out there trying to protect the dragon from dragon trappers (insert dramatic music here).
A prominent theme throughout the film is definitely relationships. It does a fabulous job of showing the how those relationships influence Hiccup …Whether it’s the mended relationship Hiccup has with his father, the relationship between Hiccup and Astrid (which is super cute), the new relationship between Hiccup and Valka and my favorite relationship of all, Hiccup and Toothless (which has completely evolved over these past 5 years) – they all make Hiccup into the man he is called to be, especially as he searches for his purpose.
While the movie does tug on your heart strings a bit (but I’ll leave it at that) there are a ton of funny parts for bothe the adults and the children. It’s a great family film!
We really enjoyed seeing How To Train Your Dragon 2 and we are looking forward to seeing it again now that it is officially in theaters.
