Today is the day that you and your family finally get to watch Disney’s Descendants on the Disney Channel. In my home, this day has been long awaited, especially because I keep telling them how much I really enjoyed watching it. Yep, I watched it without them (Gasp!) but that was one of the perks in my most recent trip to California. Oh, I also got to meet its Director, Kenny Ortega, along with 2 of it’s cast members, Dove Cameron & Cameron Boyce. Yes, my daughter gave me the squinted eye look of jealousy but I know deep inside (way deep down) she was happy for me…at least that is what I keep telling myself.

After today it won’t matter because she will finally get to see it. Actually, we’ll be watching it as a family! Maybe it will be the songs and dances or maybe it will be their fashion style or the story itself that they will love the most, whatever it is just know that everyone will enjoy it.

For those parents that are worried that the movie’s focus is on the children of villains, worry not. There is so much more to the story and I feel like your kiddos can actually learn something from these characters.

The kids can choose to follow their parents path or create their own.

Your value is not based on how you look.

Ex: Both Jane and Evie struggle with this in their own ways

Don’t let your fears cripple you because you can miss out

People can change

There are numerous characters that exemplify this

Do what’s right no matter what anyone tells you

Ben had a tough decision to make but he followed his gut and did what he knew was right even though he was advised not to.

It’s OK to take chances.

Ben & The Disney’s Descendants took a chance and look how it turned out.

There are consequences to your actions

A lot of the characters experience this. What we do not only affects those around us but it affects us as well (and not in a good way).

I am sure there are a ton more I could add to the list and after I watch the movie again this evening, I may just come back and add more to this list.  Feel free to comment with any that you come up with as well, I’d love to see what you come up with (and maybe even add it to the post).

Be sure to tune into the Disney Channel tonight at 8 PM ET!!!!
