The Croods are back and, if you ask my daughter, they are better than ever in The Croods: A New Age.
I remember watching The Croods years ago and loving it. There was just something about the mix of creativeness, comedy, and heart that really got me. Oh, and Belt of course. So, when I saw the preview for The Croods: A New Age, I knew I wanted to watch it with the family.
In most cases, a sequel to a film leaves me disappointed because they don’t live up to its predecessor BUT thankfully that wasn’t the case with The Croods: A New Age. In this film, The Croods’ story continues…they are still searching for tomorrow. During their search, they stumble upon a place that may just be what they are looking for but it is already inhabited by a family. Like Guy, this family is more “advanced” than the Croods, which causes some issues but there is a bigger threat that has the power to bring them together.
.This film doesn’t just deal with evolution itself but the evolution of its characters and relationships as well. The storyline itself was pretty good and provided some closure while still allowing for more stories to be told in the future if they wanted to. The only storyline that seemed a little out of place was the Thunder Sisters scene but it was entertaining so I didn’t mind it.
We loved seeing the various inventions The Betterman’s had come up with…they were quite creative. between the inventions and their use of animals, it reminded us of The Flinstones. In addition to the inventions, they did a really good job of making the families from an earlier era relatable. I was a little disappointed that Belt wasn’t as prominent of a character in this film (because I just love him) but it was nice to see that Ugga had more of a role in this movie.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, we really enjoyed the movie. After the year we have had, we needed this movie. It made us laugh and reminded us that adapting to change is difficult but may also be for the best. Which is something that we have had to do a lot of this year. It is truly a film that the whole family can enjoy. Plus, you don’t have to worry about any inappropriate language or mature content.
The Croods: A New Age is officially in theaters.

More about The Croods: A New Age
Searching for a safer habitat, the prehistoric Crood family discovers an idyllic, walled-in paradise that meets all of its needs. Unfortunately, they must also learn to live with the Bettermans — a family that’s a couple of steps above the Croods on the evolutionary ladder. As tensions between the new neighbors start to rise, a new threat soon propels both clans on an epic adventure that forces them to embrace their differences, draw strength from one another, and survive together.
My favorite version of movies is the animated movies. I prefer animated over live action.
