I am not sure how I would react if after my father passing away I find out that he not only fathered another child but that he also wants me to give him/her $150,000 that he stashed over the years, especially when I desperately need the money. Maybe I should talk to my dad and ask him, so that there are no surprises???? Well, if this storyline intrigued you, you are going to want to check out the movie “People Like Us” when it comes out in theaters this Friday, 6/29.
But wait, it gets better…This film is actually inspired by true events in the life of writer/director, Alex Kurtzman, whose father did have another family that Alex hadn’t met until he was approached by his half-sister at a party. I should add that while this life changing event inspired the underlying premise of this film, the movie characters and their struggles are not based on his life.
Sam, Chris Pine, plays a salesman who while scrambling to prevent his professional life from falling apart finds out that his father has passed away. He has intentionally distanced himself from his parents because of his relationship with his dad and is not thrilled by the prospect of having to return home. While back home, he finds out that his father has kept a major secret from him…

He has a daughter named Frankie, played by Elizabeth Banks* and he wants him to give her $150,000 for her and her son. Mind you, this money would save him from the financial hole he has gotten himself into but little does he know that Frankie, a single mom and recovering alcoholic is trying to make ends meet. This is when the adventure begins.
There is some profanity in the film but it may or may not matter since it really isn’t a movie for the kiddos.
*I actually had the chance to interview Elizabeth Banks and I will be posting the interview soon, so keep checking back
