Old Guard is an action filled movie that left me wanting more.
The moment I saw the preview for Old Guard on Netflix, I was intrigued. Not only because of the story line (immortal mercinaries being hunted while training a new immortal) but also because of Charlize Theron. I mean, she tends to kick butt in these types of roles and thankfully she did not disappoint. Given how many years these mercinaries have been around, they have picked up quite a few fighting techniques along the way which took the fight scenes to a whole other level. I was impressed.
As far as origin stories go (which I assume it was), it was good…real good. Although the whole immortal story line has been done before they did spice it up a bit. Basically, there is no way to kill them but they can die when it is their time (so they never know if they’ll come to life again) and some other goodies I won’t spoil for you.
Given all the time these immortals have walked the earth, we thought they could have been better off financially but that probably has something to do with having watched Highlander. They also could have done a bit more with the main character’s personal stories but they answered enough of our questions to not be a big issue.
All in all it was a really good movie and we enjoyed watching it but it is definitely not one I would watch with the kiddos given how graphic most of the fight scenes were. If they do come out with a sequel, we’ll be streaming it opening weekend because we want to see what they do with this story.
Old Guard is now available on Netflix and is definitely a must watch!
