While Bella Thorne has quite an acting resume, I first became aware of who she was as an actress while watching her on the, Disney channel, show Shake It Up with my kids. Of course I thought her role as Larry in Adam Sandler’s film, Blended, was funny. Now you can see her on the big screen again in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip (now in theaters).

Of course my daughter was a bit jealous when I told her I’d be interviewing her for that role but I am hoping that getting a pic with her will earn me some cool points with the kiddos (I can use as many as I can get!)

Before our interview, I had no idea that in addition to acting, singing and dancing, Bella Thorne is also an author. Wow! When asked what she didn’t do, she jokingly said that she doesn’t have a perfume line, so maybe she will one day.

Getting the role

She met with director and read a few lines and he told her that she was the girl and that he also wanted to incorporate her actual music into the movie and they did. One of the songs she sings is her actual song.

Preparing for working with animated characters

“You act alongside them and you have people reading their lines that are in red, blue and green shirts so you know what characters they are…They also have little stuffed animals…It’s interesting because there is a lot they have to do to get the animation correct, which is one of the main reasons she wanted to work on the film.”

Staying humble after being in the industry for so long

“I guess it’s not really something you think about. I am a pretty regular girl. I do regular things. I send a lot of time wit my family. They definitely keep me grounded… I’m not really a part of the Hollywood scene. A lot of my friends are not actors.

On watching Alvin and the Chipmunks growing up

“I did see the movies growing up… its always something that’s related to fond memories. It was fun watching it when I was growing up and it was good experience being a part of something I never thought I would be able to do.”

Funniest story while filming

“There was this one time that the… camera that goes on the track really fast was zooming into an actor and it ran over Theodore… literally everybody just broke out into laughter. I couldn’t help laughing because that is my favorite character… he was fine obviously, it’s a stuffed animal.”

Transitioning from TV to the movies

“Before I did “Shake It Up”, I did lots of drama. I have done other things on HBO and I love doing film and then I got the show, which was kind of like a halt, and I started to do comedy… I’ve been working a lot of films that aren’t as age appropriate as this one but I am really happy to be able to do family movies as well for my younger fan base. It definitely was not easy transitioning out of the channel… it wasn’t as easy as you would think.”

Preference between Acting & Singing

Definitely acting. Anytime anybody ask me if I sing I say not really because I don’t love my voice. I do have a movie coming out called “Midnight Sun” that I do a lot of singing in, which I will say is more of my better singing…I had to learn how to play guitar for it. It was definitely an interesting experience.”

What’s next for her

I am shooting a film in January and then I’m shooting another film two months after that and then I start a show, if the show goes through, so I have a busy schedule already…”

On why charitable work is important to her

“I am so happy to be where I am… and although I have put in the time, luck does play a big role, so I’m really blessed. I want to give the people some of what I have. That is why I do a lot of charity work.”
