4th of July Is Important To Our Family Collage

4th of July Is Important to Our Family…

Being that my father left Cuba at the age of 5 and having heard stories of why they left and what it took for my family to get here, living in America is not something that I take for granted. As the fourth of July approaches and plans are being made for celebrations, I understand that it’s not just a day off from work and a reason to gather with family and friends…I recognize how blessed I am to be living in the US.

After getting married and purchasing our 1st home, my husband and I began hosting a 4th of July get together at our house every year. We loved having all of our family and friends, hanging out, filling our bellies with way too much food, dancing and watching fireworks.

I have some really great 4th of July memories but one in particular really stands out for me…

Almost 9 years ago, I remember walking around the neighborhood on the 4th of July with my husband. I mention this because I am not one who goes for walks BUT that particular time, I was 9 months pregnant, and I was doing my part to get the labor process started. I was ready to meet my baby girl. Thankfully, it wasn’t much longer before I was holding her in my arms.  That’s another reason why the 4th of July is so important to our family.

While we don’t host 4th of July anymore, because hosting 2 events in 1 weekend became difficult (4th of July and my baby girl’s birthday festivities), we still gather with family and friends. We still enjoy food, dancing and fireworks while never forgetting the real reason we celebrate.

What will you be doing this 4th of July? What will you be snacking on? I
