As I sat down for breakfast and interviews with the cast of ABC Family’s newest show Young and Hungry while I was in LA, I quickly realized that they were young and I was simply Hungry. But let’s not focus on that or I may get depressed and simply eat more, LOL.

KYM WHITLEY, REX LEE, EMILY OSMENT, JONATHAN SADOWSKI, AIMEE CARRERO

As the Young and Hungry cast members joined our table, we chatted about their roles on the show and whatever else we could get out of them. Here’s what I found out…

Young & Hungry

  • The cast hangs out all the time.
  • Based on audience reaction, they will rewrite stuff right on the spot
  • Emily Osment was the first person cast on the show.
  • Every thing they cook on the show is done fresh, in a mock kitchen behind theirs about 2 minutes before shooting the scene.
  • Mondays they have table readings, Tuesdays they have rehearsals and a run thru for the writers, Wednesdays they have rehearsals and studio run thrus, Thursdays they start shooting anything that needs to be done in front of a green scree or what can’t be done in front of an audience and on Fridays they shoot the rest in front of a live audience.
  • They get new scripts as often as daily.

Emily Osment “Gabi Diamond”

Emily Osment and Leanette Fernandez

  • Long audition process, auditioned about 4 times.
  • Willing to make a fool of herself, which is like her character.
  • The more of yourself you put into your character, the more authentic it will be.
  • Enjoys cooking in real life
  • Raised cooking meals together and eating dinner together every night.
  • Loves taping in front of a live audience.  It gets her super charged, like Mario.
  • Projects she’s working on: She plays Rainbow Brite, works on Family Guy and has a digital series called Cleaners.

Jonathan Sadowski “Josh Kaminski”

Jonathan Sadowski and Leanette Fernandez

  • Comes from a theater background.
  • He is a hot sauce enthusiast and actually collects hot sauces. He even makes his own hot sauce.
  • He’s a magician. He’s been doing it since he was 8 years old.
  • Blue is his favorite color.
  • His favorite part of the show is performing in front of a live audience and making people laugh.

Although I am happily married, I will say that Jonathan was much cuter in person than he is on TV. Plus, he is so funny. He started off our interview by telling us that he was on crutches because he saved a boy from a burning fire (which he later admitted was actually because of a fall) and later when he was asking about us bloggers and I asked if he knew what a blogger was and his response was “Are you kidding me? Have you heard of the internet…of course!” – he was on it and I liked that.

Rex Lee “Elliot Park”

Rex Lee and Leanette Fernandez

  • He didn’t have to audition for his part on the show.  Elliot was written with him in mind.
  • As an actor, he is always looking for ways that he is like is character.

Aimee Carrero “Sofia Rodriguez”

Aimee Carrero and Leanette Fernandez

  • Wants to be like her character Sofia because she has it together.
  • Has a theater background.
  • Performing in front of a live audience is the best part.
  • Got the job because she lied…didn’t get a call back during the initial audition but a week later she got a job on the show Baby Daddy and they liked her.  When they asked if she had auditioned for “Young and Hungry”, she said “No” and then she auditioned again (skipping the 1st round) and got the part.
  • Feels safe working with Emily Osment because she’s been in the business a long time.

Tune in Tonight (7/30) at 8:00pm ET/PT on ABC Family because Jesse McCartney will be guest starring.
