Abraham Lincoln was an incredible man and president…. I mean, he abolished slavery!!!!! (Sorry for the spoiler…LOL). While I admire what he did, I never gave much thought about what it must have taken to make that happen, never understood what he must have had to overcome and how hard he had to fight for it. “Lincoln”, a new film directed by Steven Spielberg gives you an inside look as to what Lincoln did to get it done. The film takes place during a time in his presidency when the civil war was going on and the country was divided. It really was no easy task…
While some parts of the film were slow and maybe a bit confusing, overall the film was really well done! You get to see Lincoln as more than our 16th president…You get a backstage pass into his life, his relationship with his wife (who made things more interesting for him), his relationship with his sons and as the leader of our great nation. Daniel Day Lewis does a superb job with his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln, so much so that after having seen the film, Abraham Lincoln is the kind of person I would have loved to have been around and learned from. All hope is not lost, maybe I’ll get the chance when time travel is finally possible.
Although this film is not, in my opinion, suitable for small children to see it gives great credibility to why Abraham Lincoln is considered to be one of our greatest Presidents of all time. So if you want to see and understand how and why he fought so bravely for the abolition of slavery, in addition to getting to know him as a Man, Husband, and Father…the film is definitely worth checking out!
