When you hear the word “Family” what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Is it your blood relatives? Your Spouse? Children? Is it the song “We Are Family”? What about someone you’ve grown up with? I have quite a few people in my life who are not blood relatives (friends from high school, church & work) whom I cherish and consider to be family.
I have one of those families that puts “FUN” in dysFUNctional. More often than not we’ll give each other a hard time, maybe even bicker back and forth (sometimes too much) BUT we are ALWAYS there for each other. I truly love my family and couldn’t picture my life without them, even when they drive me crazy. Everyone’s family is different but one thing that is universal is that for those that you chose to call your family, there is a powerful love/bond that is shared.
Family, both what it means to me and the value it has in my life, has been on my mind a lot lately…
**On a recent mission trip to Haiti with my Hubby, I was able to see firsthand that family can be made up of various dynamics and it made me realize that I sometimes take mine for granted.

We had the chance to visit 2 orphanages while we were there and while these orphans technically have no family, the other children at the orphanage and those caring for them have in a sense become their family. They love one another. They take care of one another. Isn’t that what family does?
**I was also reminded about the importance of family and its value within our lives when I watched the film, “The Odd Life Of Timothy Green”. Family is a major component in the storyline and it’s intricately woven throughout the film. Jim & Cindy’s desire to have a family is a major example of this but it goes beyond that. Family provides support for one another, shares laughter and tears, creates memories, make mistakes, forgives and so much more and all of these are evident throughout the film.
After seeing the film, it inspired me to write about my Family. I believe that you watching this movie when it comes out in theaters, on 8/15, will change you just as Timothy forever changed the lives of Jim & Cindy.
