Although The Three Stooges were before my time, I have seen reruns in the past, and I enjoyed them very much. Needless to say I was looking forward to watching the new Three Stooges Movie which was released on DVD on July 17, 2012. When I finally got the opportunity to watch it, I was not disappointed. The movie was filled with the traditional eye poking, nose grabbing and head thumping you’d expect from the Three Stooges mixed with the familiar Farrelly Brothers modern day humor. In comparison to the original Three Stooges, Will Sasso (Curly), Sean Hayes (Larry) and Chris Diamantopoulos (Moe) and the kids that played there younger selves, were spot on. The resemblance in mannerisms and character traits to the dynamic trio was uncanny. The storyline was simple enough to not cloud the underline story of the unbreakable bond between the three BFF’s. Set in modern times, the boys head out to save the orphanage they were raised in from being shut down.

Sheltered from the outside world and never having left the orphanage before, Larry, Moe and Curly embark on their adventure armed only with their naive wit, “dumb luck”, fluttering fingers and nyuck, nyuck sight gags. Along the way they run into some familiar characters that add that modern day twist. I described this movie as a softer Farrelly Brothers meets live action Tom & Jerry. There is even a comical “Don’t try this at home” disclaimer at the end of the movie for the kids or young at heart adults that aren’t familiar with slapstick comedy. I hope you enjoy this movie as much as I did.

Nice review! I’m glad you didn’t give the whole movie away. I have yet to see it, and wanted to know what I should expect when I see it. Many of my Dish coworkers who have seen Three Stooges said it had plenty of laughs, but like most remakes, wasn’t nearly as funny as the originals. I still love the clowns, so I added the movie to my Blockbuster @Home queue so that I can form my own opinion on it. I really do hope that it is funny!
