Monkey Kingdom is officially in theaters!!!!
While I was in L.A. I was able to watch a pre-screening of Monkey Kingdom. After the movie, we had the chance to speak with Disneynature Marketing Lead Paul Baribault and Consultant Kristina Reed (Academy Award winning Producer of “FEAST”) about the movie…what an interesting conversation! I loved getting the chance to learn more about its back story and now I get to share those interesting facts with you.
8 Fun Facts About Disneynature’s Monkey Kingdom
- It took them 2.5 years to film the movie
- Maya spent 8 generations on the bottom of their social class
- A team of scientists have been studying the monkeys for 40 years
- They wanted to choose an animal that had the same struggle as humans that can also sustain an audience for 77 minutes.
- They used some of the same camera crew from previous Disneynature films.
- When they set out to make the film, they take a gamble because there are no guarantees that they’ll get the story they’re hoping for or the footage they’ll need.
- They have multiple projects going on. While movies are slated they have to constantly keep checking in to see how it is progressing.
- For this film they wanted a woman narrator who was a mom and someone who people could relate to.
Official Synopsis for Monkey Kingdom
Disneynature’s new feature film is narrated by Tina Fey and is set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia. Maya’s world is forever changed when she welcomes her son, Kip, into her complicated extended family. Like all families, Maya’s has more than its share of colorful personalities—and she’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world. When their longtime home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys, Maya’s whole family retreats, and she uses her street smarts and ingenuity to uncover untapped resources amidst strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings. Ultimately, they will all have to work together to reclaim Castle Rock, where Maya can hopefully realize her dreams for her son’s future.
