We have had a lot of time on our hands these days, so when a new movie comes out for us to enjoy, we are thankful. Especially one that we can enjoy as a family, like The Main event now streaming on Netflix.
Both my husband and son are wrestling fans so when they saw the preview for this movie, it definitely peaked their interest. They were excited about seeing some cool wrestlers and wrestling moves in the film but fear not, there is so much more to the film besides wrestling. There is a lot of heart as well.
This films tackles family relationships, bullying and loss. I appreciated the realness to the film (well besides the masks with the special power) when it came to the reason why Leo’s mom wasn’t around. Typically films use a tragic story like death but in this case (spoiler ahead) the mom met a new man, ran off to NY and hasn’t bothered reaching out to her son. Yes, it is sad but those things happen and seeing them address it, even if not with a deep dive, was refreshing.
Is this movie kid friendly? Absolutely! There are no bad words or inappropriate scenes. After watching the movie with them, you can remind the kiddos that they don’t need to hide behind a mask and that they should be who they are.
While it isn’t a movie I would rush off to see again, I did enjoy it. The Main Event is now streaming on Netflix. Check out these Fun Facts about The Main Event from Tichina Arnold & Seth Carr.
