Did you know that going green (in terms of helping the earth) could also save you green (in terms of money) as well? I discussed Ways Going Green Can Save You Green on this week’s WSVN Money Monday Segment (you can watch it here) and I figured I’d elaborate on the various ways I mentioned.
16 Ways Going Green Can Save You Green

- Use Mobile Coupons instead of printing them out. Stores such as Publix also offer digital coupons you can click online and use at the register by entering your phone #
- Recycle Your Old Electronics – You can check out websites that will pay you for your old electronics or consider donating them to charities that use them to help others.
- Make your own Cleaning Products – Most cleaners can be replaced with simple, cheap ingredients like baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice.
- Don’t Buy Bottled Water, purchase a filter. If you decide to use bottled water, consider refilling it before getting a new one.

- Unplug appliances when they are not in use which saves you electricity and money. It is probably safer as well.
- Switch to Energy Efficient Lighting.
- Buy Refurbished Ink. Also recycle your used cartridges (some stores will offer you a discount on new ink if you do this)
- Use the Library for books, music and movies. Its free, so there’s no need to rent or buy them.
- Use Paperless Billing (this also means less clutter in your home)
- Carpool. This saves you money on gas and maybe even time if you get to use the carpool lane.
- Borrow tools and certain supplies instead of purchasing them
- Start a Vegetable Garden.

By doing these things, not only are you helping yourself but you are also helping the earth…It’s a Win, Win!

I do a lot of these things. I think using cloths instead of paper towels is a good idea. I never buy bottled water, and I always use energy saving bulbs. I use the Library a lot for movies and magazines. There are a lot of great tips to follow and everyone needs to do there part in helping the environment.
I love all this information. I really love the part about making your own cleaning products because it is safer and cheaper. Thanks for sharing.
