A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege to be able to go to Memphis, Tennessee to learn more about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Prior to my trip, I had heard of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and knew they helped kids with cancer but I honestly had no clue about all they offer to the children and their families until I got the chance to go there to see and experience myself. Their unique mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases through research and treatment.
While I was there, I was able to tour St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, speak with 2 patients and their parents, tour the Target house and serve food to some of the families. It was an emotional and eye opening experience that I look forward to sharing with you (1 post won’t do it justice).
Being that today is #GivingTuesday, I wanted to share some of my experiences with you so that you will consider giving back to a hospital that gives so much to its patients and their families.
While there are many wonderful children’s hospitals out there, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is different in that (1) it is a research hospital (2) they go above and beyond focusing solely on finding a cure for their patients, they are concerned about their education, spiritual well being and physical needs as well (3) ALL of the treatment they provide is FREE…the family will NEVER receive a bill.
I should add that not only is the child’s treatment FREE but St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital also covers all the family’s travel expenses to and from, they provides meals and temporary housing during the time they are there and transportation to and from the housing facilities and the hospital. They want the parents to not have to worry about anything except for their child. What a blessing!
In order to be able to provide for their patients (who once they are a patient, always remain a patient) and their families, it cost near 1.9 million dollars a day…a day! This is why they need our help.
