Her character is strong and complex. As Emilia Clarke made her way into the room for our interview she was greeted by a thunderous applause which she got a kick out of (so much so that she commented about leaving the room and coming back inside). You may know Emilia from a little show called Game of Thrones, but her role as Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story will have people talking as well.

Here is what Emilia Clarke had to say…

Emilia Clarke

About her character Qi’ra

“I think that Qi’ra is definitely a survivor. She does what she needs to do to keep being around. I think it’s fun because what you get to see with her is you see her and Han from the very beginning, from kids. And so you kinda’ get to see a youthful like where they both came from, when nothing was too serious you know what I mean? They were just surviving and Bonnie and Clyding their way out…”

Emilia Clarke

On portraying a strong female character

“…there was a lot of discussions that I had with the creators of the movie to just kind of make sure that there were certain things in place that I felt were important for her and for the Star Wars franchise to have a girl that you know was strong.”

What she wants girls to get from her strong female characters

“…we’re just women. You can take strong out of the equation do you know what I mean? It just is what we are, strength is within us as women. And that is it’d be wonderful if for the young girls who are watching me play these characters now just see that as a part of being a woman.”

Fun Fact: Her dad was in the theater. He was the Sound Designer.

Working with Ron Howard

“He literally couldn’t have been better and just to held us all in the most beautiful way and he made us all feel heard, which in a movie of this scale is so impressive.”

How Game of Thrones fans compare to Star Wars fans

“…I sorta’ feel like there is cross over…And I’ve not has as much experience with Star Wars fans ‘cause this hasn’t come out yet. So you know my Game of Thrones fans are incredible and loyal and wonderful, but I do think that a lot of them love Star Wars…”

Fun Fact: If she could be a Marvel Universe character she would be The Hulk

Solo: A Star Wars Story Momento

“I was given a piece of jewelry…I got it and it’s in my safe and it’s not left yet.”
