Smokey Robinson and Leanette Fernandez

When I received the invite to interview Smokey Robinson about his new line of wines, I immediately responded with a “Yes”. After all, it is Smokey Robinson and he is a music legend. My mom has always been a big fan of Smokey Robinson (more on that in another post) so I grew up listening to (and enjoying) his music. I was really excited about meeting him and getting the chance to chat.

Leanette Fernandez interviewing Smokey Robinson

His music career spans over 50 years and although he has a beautiful voice, his talent extends beyond that to include writing songs for various artists. During his 50 year music career he has actually written over 4000 songs and it includes hits such as “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” “My Girl,” and “Cruisin’”. Oh, and he was also the Vice President of Motown Records until the company was sold.

Fun Fact: Smokey Robinson was the one that suggested that Gordy start Motown Records.

As if all that wasn’t enough, he now has vintage wines, each named after one of his hit songs. Featuring full-cluster grapes sourced from the vines of premium growers in California and Chile, the wine is aged in a combination of American, French and Australian oak barrels for 18-24 months to give it a flavor as smooth and memorable as Smokey’s silky voice.

Heavily involved in the process, Smokey Robinson wanted to be sure he put his name on something he believed in. If you can believe it, he wasn’t much of a wine drinker but he does his enjoy his wines which are actually vegan friendly (because Smokey is a vegan). They currently offer 4 wines but there may be more in the future. Want to know more about Smokey Robinson wines, check out their website.
