Growing up, my mom always emphasized the importance of school. While both my parents are extremely smart, neither one graduated from High School. You see, my parents fell in love while they were young teens and ended up moving to California and getting married before they finished getting their diploma. So, I made it my mission to stay focused and graduate from both High School and College and I did exactly that! As a Hispanic Woman, I am proud to have earned an AA, AS and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Education from the University of Miami. I am also happy and proud to say that both my mom and dad have since earned their high school diplomas and my mom even went on to get her Associates Degree…It is NEVER too late!

Money was tight for us and I had to work full time, while attending school full time, to make it happen. Unfortunately, the money I was earning did not cover it all but fortunately I received Grants and Scholarships to help me pay for my classes and books. Thankfully, I graduated without taking on any student loans and this is why I think it is so incredible that The Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Coca-Cola have teamed up and are offering scholarships through the Destapa Su Futuro Scholarship Fund. From now through October 31st, students can apply for a scholarship at www.hsf.net/cocacola and all they have to do is answer three essay questions about how their heritage affects their career goals, the importance of education in their lives and their community service experiences.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) was founded in 1975 and believes that the country prospers when all Americans have access to the opportunities a college education can afford. To date, HSF has awarded over $360 million in scholarships. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Coca-Cola share the goal that each Latino household has a college degree by the year 2025.

Click HERE for the HSF application.

Give it a shot and fill out the application.  Isn’t your dream of getting a degree worth the time it takes to submit your application?  I think so!  You never know, you just may get it!!!!!
