The last time I was in San Francisco, I got to visit Google Headquarters. Yep, me at Google Headquarters. I still can’t believe it…I felt smarter just being on their property.

Unfortunately, that faded once we drove off but I did leave with a deeper appreciation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and its importance in the lives in children, especially for girls. After viewing an upcoming episode of Miles from Tomorrowland, “The Discovery Expedition,” we had the chance to chat with some Ladies that are pretty awesome.

Ladies who pursued their love of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math as a career. Unfortunately, the number of females in those professions is very low which is why they are doing what they can to encourage girls to follow their dreams, especially in those areas.

Miles from Tomorrowland Panel Discussion

• Julie Ann Crommett, Moderator, Google
• Angela Navarro, Google Engineer
• Diane Ikemiyashiro, Director of Original Programming, Disney Junior
• Dr. Yvonne Cagle, NASA Astronaut & Consultant on Miles from Tomorrowland
• Isis Anchalee, Software Engineer behind the #Ilooklikeanengineer social media movement

Did I mention that Dr. Yvonne Cagle and I are now besties? Yep. We even did the robot together (even though I realized after that we should have done the moonwalk…you know, because she is an astronaut).

I love that in addition to these women sharing their stories and doing what they can to encourage young females, shows like Miles from Tomorrowland are doing the same. Sascha Paladino, MILES FROM TOMORROWLAND Creator & Executive Producer, really sees the value in it (he was on the panel as well) which is why “The Discovery Expedition” episode I mentioned watching earlier, Loretta uses her coding skills to discover a hidden planet. How cool is it that this young female character discovers another planet because she used coding? Miles from Tomorrowland is empowering our youth, especially the girls, by using a young female animated character our kiddos can relate with to accomplish big things…life changing things.

As a mom, I want both of my kiddos to feel as though they can do anything they set their mind to. As a mom of a girl, I want her to know that as a girl, she is not limited…I want her to reach for the stars!

This cool episode of Miles from Tomorrowland premieres tomorrow, Friday, December 4 at 10:30 AM ET/PT on Disney Channel.
