My Spy is filled with action, comedy, heart and quite a few bad words. If you can look past the fact that My Spy may be a little too much for young audiences (at least when it comes to the use of bad language), I will say that it is a really good movie and a must watch.

My Spy Movie Review

Had I known going into watching My Spy that it wasn’t really intended to be a kids movie, I think all of that would have been better received. I wouldn’t have been shocked to see some violent scenes or hear a ton of bad words. Despite all that, My Spy is a movie worth watching. Even with some of the parts being predictable, it was fun to watch and there were quite a few funny scenes. Some of which had me laughing out loud, which I think we all need these days.

For some reason Dave Bautista’s character in this film, JJ, reminded me of his role as Drax. That may seem odd but it’s because of his funny one liners that are delivered in a serious tone but end up making you crack up instead. That worked really well in his dialogue with his co-stars, especially with Sophie (played by Chloe Coleman). I found their relationship to be both funny and heart warming.

My Spy

I know I mentioned this before but it is worth mentioning again. Parents heed its rating of PG-13 if you don’t want the small kiddos to be exposed to way too much cursing. I found it unnecessary and actually quite surprising since I initially thought is was a kid movie. My 13 year old daughter reminded me that she has heard worse at school but that doesn’t make it any less uncomfortable for me to hear the use of some of those words in her presence. Oddly enough they had a swear jar on set but you’ll have to read more about that (and other fun facts)n in my interview with Chloe Coleman. It didn’t help that they also had CardiB’s song on the film’s sound track. Other than that there were some violent scenes (shooting, knife fights and explosions) but nothing that I thought my kids (who are 9 and 13) couldn’t handle.

Overall, my family and I really enjoyed My Spy. So much so that when we had the chance to screen the movie for a second time, my daughter wanted to watch it again which is a pretty big deal because she doesn’t do that with very many movies. My Spy comes to Amazon Prime Video June 26th!
