The first time my kids and I went to the Museum of Discovery and Science it was last year and we were on a summer camp field trip. While the kids and I enjoyed ourselves I wanted to go back with them on our own so that we could experience it all at our own pace. Plus, the Museum of Discovery and Science is the kind of place you can keep going back to because it is a nice escape from the summer heat and they also change some of the exhibits and have themed events going on so there is something new for your kiddos to enjoy.
So last Wednesday, we headed on over to the Museum of Discovery and Science. If it wasn’t for the fact we hadn’t eaten lunch yet and that my parking meter time was about to expire we would have stayed there longer than the four hours we were there. Honestly, my kids were having so much fun that they weren’t even concerned about not having had lunch (and we left at 3:30pm). We could have eaten there (they sell food and snacks) but since I was the one that was tired, I used it as an excuse to head on home…LOL.
There are various exhibits at the Museum of Discovery and Science but my kids and I enjoy the Discovery Center the best. I loved seeing my kiddos have so much fun! While they were at the Discovery Center they created giant bubbles, built a house with foam blocks, climbed in a play tree and even pretended to pick and distribute oranges. For whatever reason, they really got a kick out of playing in the oranges section, I had to beg them to explore the rest of the museum.
On the first level of the museum you’ll see fishes, insects, turtles, snakes and even an otter. You’ll also find a storm center where your kids can feel hurricane winds, create a cloud and pretend that they are filming a weather segment. We love airboat rides so of course we checked out the airboat simulation ride, Everglades Airboat Adventure, and even rode on it twice.
On the second floor you’ll find flight simulators, brain teasers and your kiddos can also become a human hurricane (once you fasten them in and give them a spin…yes, adults can do it too!). My kids also enjoyed hanging on the rope as they tried to lift the weight. There are a ton of things to do!
Through 9/2, there is a Tony Hawk exhibit you all can experience as well.
My kids loved going to the Museum of Discovery and Science and I know we will be headed over there again at some point this summer. You should check it out as well and if you are, there is a summer pass available where you pay one fee per adult and child and you can get into 4 attractions (Museum of Discovery and Science, Lion Country Safari, Miami Seaquarium & Zoo Miami) as many times as you want all summer long. Actually, if you have a Museum of Discovery and Science membership, you can save $15 on each saving pass, IMAX tickets and exhibit passes.
Disclosure: My family and I were provided passes to check out the Museum of Discovery and Science in order to facilitate my review. ALL opinions are my own.
