What is it about the start of a new year that gets us to want to focus on our health? I am not sure what the reason is but if that is one of your New Year’s resolutions, then the time is now to come up with a plan of action. While focusing on what food to eat and the types of exercises you will be implementing is part of the plan, having health insurance plays a big role as well. Whether it is preventive care (check-ups, annual physicals, dental check-ups) or treatment while you are sick or hurt, health insurance is vital. Especially where the kiddos are concerned.

Between germs at school, participating in sports or simply being a kid, you know that sickness or injury can occur at any moment and you should be prepared for it. Given it’s importance, it’s unfortunate that there are currently 257,000 children in Florida living without health and dental insurance. Especially when the numbers don’t have to be that high because 147,000 of them are likely eligible for completely free or low-cost health insurance through Florida KidCare. Having at one point used Florida Kid Care for my kiddos insurance, I can say that the quality of care isn’t different than the one you would get with private insurance.

If you aren’t familiar with Florida KidCare, they provide multiple services that include a focus on doctor Visits, Check-ups & shots, hospital, surgery, prescriptions, emergencies, vision & hearing, dental and mental health. So, if you want to start the new year off running (not literally…although running is good for your health), the time to formulate a plan and take some action is now.
